Our Story

The ATX Indoor Golf Club is a family affair spear-headed by Chris Roach, who grew up playing golf on the Austin municipal courses—Hancock, Lions, Morris Williams and Jimmy Clay (and later Roy Kizer). And though not an accomplished golfer, he developed a love for the game and the rich golf history in Texas.

Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, disciples of legendary golf instructor Harvey Penick were childhood heroes and amongst the Texas golf luminaries ATX IGC seeks to honor in its Hall of Fame, which connects the Front and Back Bays at the club.

After 30 plus years working in IT Technology, Chris decided to try his hand at marrying old school golf tradition with new age technology—especially the innovative, graphic-rich renderings of golf courses and a virtual driving range developed by Trackman, more specifically, their next generation Trackman iO (indoor Optimized). Locally and in his travels, Chris has enjoyed the indoor alternative that a quality golf sim provides. Especially, the time efficiency i.e. a definitive beginning and end time, playing at your own pace, not being weather dependent, and avoiding the frustration of lost balls and lost time looking for them. There was one close to home that he frequented until it moved away leaving him in somewhat of a golf desert in SW Austin. Hence, a business idea was hatched and plan developed.

Based on Chris’s experiences at other clubs near and far, they decided to focus on a venue that maximized the bays themselves by making them as private as possible. Eschewing the more common driving range-like booths, and rather than pay rent on extra space to serve over-priced, mediocre food or a “meh” indoor putting green, ATX IGC’s space is 90% hitting bays with a self-serve snack bar, the 19th Hole Pantry, stocked with moderately priced non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. The club also allows customers to bring in their own food and drink if desired. 

We believe our cost-efficient use of the space makes our club more affordable. We also wanted to leverage the technology to make the club more accessible i.e. allow members to play anytime 7x24, much like a 24-hour gym operates.

Lastly and most importantly, we desired the experience to be more intimate like outside golf. So to align with old school tradition, we’re limiting the bays to foursomes—a host and up to three guests, and like a traditional course, we’ll offer “green fees” that are discounted at non-peak usage times.

Our Bays:

ATX IGC has two hitting bays—the semi-private Front Bay is the first thing customers see when they come in the door and the private Back Bay, is a standalone living room style bay, where patrons can close the door behind them and have all to themselves. Each bay is equipped with a Trackman iO, an LG ProBeam 4k UHD Projector, s 55’ TV that can be tuned to your game, favorite show or to scrutinize your golf swing captured by Trackman, plus comfortable seating to relax in when not on the tee.
